Qld: Handling of another child rape investigated - CMC
Queensland's Crime and Misconduct Commission says it's overseeing an investigation
into the handling of the pack rape of another Aboriginal girl.
The complaint relates to the rape of a girl by three men in an undisclosed community.
The CMC says the complaint was received about three months ago .. and is being looked
into by investigators appointed by the Department of Child Safety.
It says the investigation's finished and a report is being drafted .. which will be
checked by the CMC to determine whether any further action needs to be taken.
It was revealed this week a child who was gang raped at the age of seven in Aurukun
on Cape York in 2002 .. was put in foster care but later returned to the community to
be raped again at the age of 10.
Cairns-based District Court judge SARAH BRADLEY didn't record convictions against six
teenage attackers and gave three others aged 17 .. 18 and 26 suspended sentences over
the 2006 rape.
It's sparked a review of 64 sentences given to sexual offenders in the state's far
north over the past two years.
