NSW: Bus drivers to vote on pay offer; more strikes on the cards
State Transit bus commuters in Sydney and Newcastle will find out next week whetherthey're headed for more disruption to services as bus drivers vote on a pay offer.
A ballot of 3,700 drivers will be held on Monday, with the drivers' union to decideon Tuesday whether or not to pursue further industrial action.
State Transit bus drivers last month staged a 48-hour strike after a breakdown in paytalks with the state government.
The strike left about 600,000 commuters, including 30,000 school children, stranded.
A second planned strike was called off at the last minute because of seniors week, even though drivers voted against a revised pay offer.
The government's latest pay offer is an increase in three stages -- four per cent, followed by another four per cent and then two per cent, all over two years.
Unions say that if drivers reject the offer, more strikes are likely.
