Qld: State to test anti-terror capacity for cup

The Queensland government says it'll stage a major anti-terrorism exercise in the lead-upto the Rugby Union World Cup in October.

Premier PETER BEATTIE says Exercise Fast Ball, to be held next month, is expected toinvolve state and federal police as well as the military, intelligence officers, emergencyservice personnel and media.

Mr BEATTIE says the last exercise of its scale was held in 2001 in the lead-up to theCommonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

He says the government is not aware of any threat to any major event in Queensland,or Australia, including the Rugby World Cup.

But he says the state has to be prepared.

Brisbane will host seven pool matches and two quarter-finals of the World Cup, withTownsville hosting a further three pool games.
