Qld: Public submissions sought on racing review
BRISBANE, April 13, AAP - An issues paper on the effect of National Competition Policy
on the Queensland racing industry has been released for public comment.
Minister for Racing Merri Rose told the Queensland parliament that in line with federal/state
agreements the Racing and Betting Act would be reviewed for anti-competitive issues that
were not in the public's best interests.
"Input from racing industry stakeholders and other interested people on the costs and
benefits of any restrictions will improve the regulatory environment in which the industry
operates," she said.
Ms Rose said the government had formed no firm or final position on the National Competition
Policy review of the racing industry.
The issues paper has been sent to every racing club in Queensland.
